Crebbe di importanza con l'amministrazione Sveva, fu roccaforte di Federico II che le concesse molti privilegi.Divenne contea con gli Angioini, quindi Ducato con i del Balzo per passare agli Orsini, indi a Consalvo de Cordova ed infine ai Carafa che la tennero sino al secolo XVIII. Nel 1799 fu conquistata e saccheggiata dal generale francese Boussiere. It grew in importance with the Swabian administration, it was a stronghold of Frederick II who granted it many privileges.It became a county with the Angevins, then a Duchy with the Del Balzo family to pass to the Orsini, then to Consalvo de Cordova and finally to the Carafa who held it until to the XVIII century. In 1799 it was conquered and sacked by the French general Boussiere.

Costruita nel XIII sec. dai Cavalieri Teutonici per San Leonardo, fu ricostruita, dopo l'assedio del 1350 degli Ungheresi, dall'ordine degli Agostiniani Scalzi che la dedicarono a Sant'Agostino e la ressero fino al 1809. Il portale principale, un arco a sesto acuto, risale al XIII sec. Nel sagrato spiccano i due leoni e le due colonne che forse sostenevano un portico a protezione del portale. Nel portale laterale spicca lo stemma gigliato degli Angio e lateralmente lo stemma di Andria con il leone rampante. Beautiful Church in the historic center of Andria. Fu edificata nel XIII secolo su richiesta del Gran Maestro dell’Ordine dei Cavalieri Teutonici. Straordinario il portale maggiore, monumento nazionale e splendido esempio di arte gotica. Ai lati dell’ingresso vi sono un leone e resti di un elemento simile, oltre a due colonne decorate da fregi. In the historic center of Andria this church is one of the oldest in the area.
