R	Roberto Gerbi on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa parrocchiale di San Lorenzo, insieme al campanile e al porticato laterale si inserisce monumentalmente nel centro del paese, poco al di sotto del colle su cui sorgeva l'antico castello e dove ora si trova il municipio. La costruzione della chiesa è del 1645-1696, su progetto dell'architetto astigiano Filippo Malabaila. La chiesa è stata costruita sul sedime di una precedente chiesa intitolata a San Giovanni Battista. Da qui deriva la doppia intitolazione a San Giovanni Battista e San Lorenzo, perdurata fino alla metà dell'Ottocento. Qualche decennio dopo l'ultimazione della chiesa fu addossato alla costruzione, lungo il fianco destro, un lungo portico ad opera del Municipio. L'interno a tre navate con transetto, coro quadrangolare e sacrestia, è ricco di stucchi settecenteschi e di opere seicentesche come i paliotti in scagliola, il crocifisso dell'altare maggiore (del 1690) e i dipinti di Pietro Laveglia. L'affresco del soffitto è di Paolo Gaidano (1892). Sopra l'altare del Rosario si trova una tela della scuola del Moncalvo. Una grande tela raffigurante la natività presenta, nella cornice, piccoli riquadri che rappresentano i misteri gaudiosi. La facciata tardobarocca, completata, restaurata ed abbellita nella seconda metà del Novecento, è in muratura di mattoni a vista come l'intero complesso ad eccezione del porticato laterale che è intonacato. Il campanile, sopraelevato nel 1905, è alto circa 30 metri. The parish church of San Lorenzo, together with the bell tower and the lateral portico is monumentally inserted in the center of the town, just below the hill on which the ancient castle stood and where the town hall is now located. The construction of the church dates back to 1645-1696, based on a project by the Asti architect Filippo Malabaila. The church was built on the grounds of an earlier church named after St. John the Baptist. From here derives the double title to San Giovanni Battista and San Lorenzo, which lasted until the mid-nineteenth century. A few decades after the completion of the church a long portico by the Town Hall was added to the building along the right side. The interior with three naves with transept, quadrangular choir and sacristy, is full of eighteenth-century stuccos and seventeenth-century works such as the scagliola frontals, the crucifix on the high altar (from 1690) and the paintings by Pietro Laveglia. The ceiling fresco is by Paolo Gaidano (1892). Above the altar of the Rosary is a painting of the school of Moncalvo. A large canvas depicting the Nativity presents, in the frame, small panels representing the joyful mysteries. The late Baroque façade, completed, restored and embellished in the second half of the twentieth century, is in exposed brick walls like the entire complex except for the lateral portico which is plastered. The bell tower, raised in 1905, is about 30 meters high.
