È stata costruita, su progetto degli architetti Piero Sartogo e Nathalie Grenon, tra il 2003 ed il 2006 anno dell'inaugurazione. L'hanno chiamata la chiesa degli artisti, per i molti artisti contemporanei, che hanno dato dei significativi contributi, tanto da rappresentare una delle opere più riuscite di architettura religiosa nella città. Alcune particolarità della chiesa sono: - La semi-cupola, in pratica tagliata a metà, con lo spazio virtuale per l'altra metà lasciato libero nella realizzazione dell'opera. - Un grande rosone-vetrata, che illumina l'interno della chiesa e permette ai fedeli di aprire il proprio sguardo verso l'orizzonte. - Un grande sagrato a forma di “V”, nel cui vertice è collocata la croce di Mattiacci alta 15 metri. - La cancellata in ferro che circonda la chiesa. - La via Crucis che comprende quindici formelle in terracotta smaltata e policroma dell'artista Mimmo Paladino. The Church of the Holy Face of Jesus is in Via della Magliana (Rome). It was built, on a project by the architects Piero Sartogo and Nathalie Grenon, between 2003 and 2006, the year of the inauguration. They have called it the church of the artists, for the many contemporary artists, who have made significant contributions, so much so that they represent one of the most successful works of religious architecture in the city. Some peculiarities of the church are: - The semi-dome, in practice cut in half, with the virtual space for the other half left free in the realization of the work. - A large rosette-window, which illuminates the inside of the church and allows the faithful to open their gaze to the horizon. - A large churchyard in the shape of a "V", at the top of which stands the cross of Mattiacci 15 meters high. - The iron gate that surrounds the church. - The Via Crucis which includes fifteen tiles in glazed and polychrome terracotta by the artist Mimmo Paladino.

The church of the Holy Face of Jesus is a church in Rome, in the Portuense district, in via della Magliana. It represents one of the most successful examples of modern religious architecture in Rome, comparable to other contemporary churches, such as Richard Meier's Church of God the Merciful Father and the Church of San Francesco di Sales by Lucrezio Carbonara. It was built, based on a project by architects Piero Sartogo and Nathalie Grenon, between 2003 and 2006. The inauguration took place on Saturday 18 March 2006. Other contemporary artists contributed to the completion of the building, including Mimmo Paladino, who created the Via Crucis composed of glazed ceramic tiles; Eliseo Mattiacci, author of the large external cross; Carla Accardi, who created a stained glass window with abstract contents, which divides the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament from the liturgical hall; Chiara Dynys, author of a luminous sculptural composition, which takes up a phrase of Saint Augustine.

Un luogo magico, dove l’arte e l’architettura si abbracciano creando uno spazio ricco di simboli e spiritualità. Il mistero del cosmo si trova nelle figure del cerchio e della sfera che richiama anche il mistero di Dio identificato come “sfera infinita”. La luce filtra indomita nel grande rosone, illumina l'interno della chiesa e si riflette sulle linee sinuose della vetrata di Carla Accardi. Assistono allo spettacolo le formelle di ceramica della Via Crucis di Mimmo Paladino, mentre sul retro appare il volto di Cristo realizzato su vetro da Pietro Ruffo. La grande croce di Mattiacci domina invece il sagrato a forma di “V” che. The ceramic tiles of the Via Crucis by Mimmo Paladino attend the show, while on the back appears the face of Christ made on glass by Pietro Ruffo. The large cross of Mattiacci dominates the V-shaped churchyard instead. As Sartogo said, "it opens almost simulating two arms outstretched towards the city and suggests the idea of the city-community that penetrates the sacred space."
