★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Questa chiesa, nel suo aspetto attuale, venne edificata nel XII secolo sostituendo un edificio sacro di epoca longobarda a sua volta sorto, si ipotizza, su un tempio pagano.
Al suo interno erano conservate le spoglie di Sant'Ercolano, santo eremita e patrono della Riviera del Garda, poi spostate nella nuova chiesa parrocchiale di Toscolano.
In facciata si possono ammirare diversi bassorilievi medievali raffiguranti teste di bestie e di uomini, grifoni, sirene bicaudate, ecc.
All'interno invece si è possono ammirare dei bei capitelli e alcuni frammenti di affreschi del XV-XVI secolo, uno dei quali riscoperto dietro un altare.
Sotto il presbiterio si può accedere all'antica cripta, chiusa nel 1580 dal cardinale Borromeo e riportata alla luce nel 1962, in cui è stato posto il sarcofago che conteneva il corpo di Sant'Ercolano.
Da visitare assolutamente!
This church, in its present aspect, was built in the 12th century by replacing a sacred building from the Lombard period which was built, it is assumed, on a pagan temple.
Inside were the remains of Sant'Ercolano, a hermit saint and patron saint of the Garda Riviera, which were later moved to the new parish church of Toscolano.
On the façade you can admire several medieval bas-reliefs depicting the heads of beasts and men, griffins, two-tailed sirens, etc.
Inside, on the other hand, you can admire some beautiful capitals and some fragments of frescoes from the 15th-16th centuries, one of which was rediscovered behind an altar.
Under the presbytery you can access the ancient crypt, closed in 1580 by Cardinal Borromeo and brought to light in 1962, in which the sarcophagus that contained the body of Sant'Ercolano was placed.
A must visit!

Die Chiesa di Sant'Andrea Apostolo hat ein Sichtmauerwerk aus weißen, hellgrauen und leicht rosafarbenen Steinen. Innen eine dezente Schönheit durch Fresken, gemalten und ausgearbeiteten Verzierungen. Der Hauptaltar ist erhöht und räumlich abgesetzt. Unter dem Hauptaltar gibt es noch ein Untergesch0oß
It's been a while.
The Chiesa di Sant'Andrea Apostolo has exposed brickwork made of white, light gray and slightly pink stones. Inside a subtle beauty through frescoes, painted and elaborated decorations. The main altar is raised and spatially separated. There is also a basement under the main altar

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chiesa romanica del XII secolo, quasi 1000 anni di storia e noi qui, a poterne godere tuttora la sua bellezza. Chi dice che le chiese siano inutili li inviterei a riflettere davanti e dentro a questa meraviglia. Ho particolarmente apprezzato la cripta, l’atmosfera cupa e gli incantevoli i capitelli scolpiti con volti di personaggi seri e misteriosi.
Romanesque church of the twelfth century, almost 1000 years of history and here we can still enjoy its beauty. Those who say that churches are useless would invite them to reflect in front of and within this marvel. I particularly appreciated the crypt, the dark atmosphere and the enchanting capitals sculpted with the faces of serious and mysterious characters.
