The church, today closed to worship, was in the past part of a cloistered convent of the Dominican nuns, the complex was built in 1555 on commission from the baron Nicolò Cancellario. The convent, once separated from the church, was connected to it by an arched air passage that exceeded the present Via della Misericordia: this passage was used by the nuns to access the women's gallery. The annexed church was completed at the end of the 1600s with the addition of a stairway with the neoclassical portal, the balcony closed by railings and the bell tower against which the founder's noble coat of arms is placed. After the earthquake of 1967, what remained of the monastery was demolished to make room for a school complex. The interior of the church is embellished with stuccoes and frescoes commissioned from the Flemish painter Guglielmo Borremans in 1717, the Glory of Saint Vincent and the Dominican Order.
