Charming Romanesque church a short distance from the provincial road, located in the middle of a public garden. Well maintained, overall well preserved, with obvious additions due to its 700 years of history. The place looks fake, so far from its immediate surroundings, but it's part of its charm. Romanesque-style building is the result of a series of alterations that took place over the centuries, resulting in a unique testimony of the first Romanesque style in Valcavallina. I have visited this church several times, having the good fortune - years ago - to see it inside (it is normally closed), asking the parish priest for the keys. I went back with pleasure because it is so beautiful and interesting that it never tires and above all in a soothing context. Once you have parked your car in one of the several free parking spaces, you have to go through the lawn because the gate is always closed (it is not clear why, since all the fence is missing and anyone can pass). The church is located along Via Nazionale (SS), the main route that connects Bergamo to Lake Endine, Val Cavallina and Val Camonica. Spinone was once very important: for centuries the lake was called "lake Spinone" or Spino or Spinono. This would evoke the Templars, because according to some scholars the toponyms referring to "Spina" or "Spino" were strictly connected to their presence. Two crosses carved on a boulder inside the building, for some it would be further confirmation. Who knows if they have contributed to the maintenance of the magnificent Romanesque church of San Pietro in Vincoli. The building is located inside a public garden; it is dedicated to St. Peter the apostle and first pope, with reference to his imprisonment (the bonds, the chains, which bound the body but not the spirit). You can go around it completely and you realize that the nave is arranged on the North-South axis, not on the canonical East-West one. In fact, the apse is still clearly visible on the east side (towards the lake) but it belonged to the original church, whose entrance was in fact to the west. The current church is the last of at least five previous buildings: the first dates back to the 11th-12th century and was much smaller; you can understand how it should be, by going inside. Here you will see a small apse placed in fact "out of place" for today's forms but once it was the point where the celebrant evoked the presence of Christ / the rising sun. In this apse today there is a burial, protected by a glass, which allows you to actually see a large erratic boulder (perhaps the site of a pagan cult originally?), As already mentioned, perhaps used as a tomb lid, which bears two engraved clear crosses, including a license (Templar?). In the 15th century, the axis of the building was rotated 90 degrees, bringing the entrance to the south and doubling the capacity. In the XVI-XVII century. a tympanet and a rose window were added. Inside you can see a residue of frescoes attributed to the Lotto school, and an older cycle (1300-1400) with Prophets and Sibyls. What you see today is the result of a massive restoration (once there was a porch in front of the entrance, with parapets, which has now disappeared). The bell tower ends with a conical roof, unusual for the area. In the garden, upstream from the church, there is the youth oratory with games for children.
