★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pur non essendo lontana dal frequentatissimo Corso Umberto, questa Chiesetta rischia di sfuggire al visitatore occasionale. L'esterno avrebbe bisogno di cure. L'ho trovata chiusa, purtroppo.
Although not far from the very busy Corso Umberto, this little church risks escaping the occasional visitor. The exterior would need care. I found it closed, unfortunately.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Costruita intorno al 1600, "extra moenia": al di fuori delle cinta muraria meridionale della città di Taormina, a poca distanza dal Palazzo dei duchi di Santo Stefano e dall'ex convento di San Domenico, la chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo è stata restaurata dopo essere stata colpita dai bombardamenti alleati durante la seconda guerra mondiale. All'interno un interessante crocifisso ligneo, e i resti dell'accesso ad una cripta sicuramente risalente alla fondazione. Riaperta alle celebrazioni dal 2011, conta di una sagrestia, di una sola navata, di un piccolo campanile, di uno spazio antistante l'ingresso, ribassato rispetto al manto stradale e di un altro spazio sul retro che si affaccia sulla vallata circostante. Quasi sempre aperta e visitabile, si trova a pochi passi dal Duomo.
Built around 1600, "extra moenia": outside the southern city walls of the city of Taormina, not far from the Palazzo dei Duchi di Santo Stefano and the former convent of San Domenico, the church of San Michele Arcangelo has been restored after being hit by Allied bombing during World War II. Inside an interesting wooden crucifix, and the remains of access to a crypt certainly dating back to the foundation. Reopened for celebrations since 2011, it has a sacristy, a single nave, a small bell tower, a space in front of the entrance, lowered compared to the road surface and another space at the back that overlooks the surrounding valley. Almost always open and open to visitors, it is located a few steps from the Duomo.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While there are many beautiful churches in Taormina, we found this much smaller church beautiful in its own way. There aren't too many churches dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel and we were very pleased to find this one. Beautiful statues of St. Michael. The church was closed when we arrived but soon after a care taker from close by, opened the church for us. We had some quiet moments from the hustle and bustle of Faormjna.
