XII, con la cappella di Santa Maria di Talamona, divenne autonoma dalla pieve di Ardenno sul finire del secolo XII, in quanto appartenente al monastero comasco di S. Abbondio, come conferma un successivo atto del 1208. Fu quindi la prima chiesa parrocchiale di Morbegno, gradualmente sostituita, per la sua lontananza dal borgo, dalla chiesa di S. Pietro nel Trecento e, successivamente, dalla chiesa cinquecentesca di S. Giovanni Battista e poi dall’attuale.
Alla chiesa di S. Martino rimase sempre legato il culto dei defunti sepolti nel cimitero circostante, tanto che venne “reffatta tutta di novo l'anno 1566 con tre navi et quattro collonne" (F. Ninguarda).
The church of San Martino is linked to the origins of the community of Morbegno. Documented from the sec. XII, with the chapel of Santa Maria di Talamona, became independent from the parish church of Ardenno at the end of the twelfth century, as belonging to the Comasco monastery of S. Abbondio, as confirmed by a subsequent act of 1208. It was therefore the first parish church of Morbegno , gradually replaced, due to its distance from the village, from the church of S. Pietro in the fourteenth century and, subsequently, from the sixteenth century church of S. Giovanni Battista and then from the current one.
The cult of the dead buried in the surrounding cemetery was always linked to the church of S. Martino, so much so that it was "rebilled all over again in the year 1566 with three ships and four collumns" (F. Ninguarda).
