La posizione è meravigliosa e da qui parte il sentiero della Roverella che, collegandosi ad altri sentieri attraverso il Parco Sasso, porta alla Rocca. San Giorgio era il protettore dei Cavalieri e dei Militari e la chiesa, in alcune occasioni dell'anno, apre alle visite, come per il 23 aprile che cade la ricorrenza di San Giorgio. Si ritiene che sia sorta in epoca longobarda come cappella funeraria (mausoleo) privata di una famiglia locale importante. L'ipotesi sarebbe convalidata dall'intitolazione a S. Giorgio (caro al popolo longobardo), da tratti di murature precedenti all'epoca romanica e da un pilastrino con decorazione altomedievale reimpiegato alla base dell'arcone all'interno. La chiesa fu ricostruita nell'XI secolo mentre le forme che vediamo risalgono a rimaneggiamenti e aggiunte seicentesche. È preceduta da un suggestivo viale alberato e da un bel protiro con veduta sul lago. L'abside semicircolare è posta a Est e l'ingresso a ovest (canonicamente). Un campanilino a vela è presente sempre a est, sopra l'abside. La chiesa apre in determinate occasioni ma dalle aperture in facciata è possibile visionare l'interno, dove si vede un grande affresco raffigurante S. Giorgio a cavallo che uccide il drago per liberare la principessa (parete settentrionale). Sulla stessa parete è conservato un frammento litico scolpito con l'Agnus dei. Altri affreschi datati tra 1200 e 1300 testimoniano l'importanza della piccola chiesa: essi sono caratterizzati dal ricorso di lamine metalliche per le aureole, le finiture delle vesti, la corazza di S. Giorgio. Tale tecnica è identica a quella degli affreschi della Pieve di S. Maria (loc. Pieve Vecchia), realizzati nello stesso periodo. A singular Romanesque church, very picturesque, it stands isolated on the southern slope of the Rocca di Manerba, near a lake landing. It is believed that it arose in the Lombard period as a private funerary chapel (mausoleum) of an important local family. The hypothesis would be validated by the title to S. Giorgio (dear to the Lombard people), by sections of masonry prior to the Romanesque period and by a small pillar with early medieval decoration reused at the base of the arch inside. The church was rebuilt in the eleventh century while the shapes we see date back to seventeenth-century alterations and additions. It is preceded by a suggestive tree-lined avenue and by a beautiful porch with a view of the lake. The semicircular apse is placed to the east and the entrance to the west (canonically). A small bell tower is always present to the east, above the apse. The church opens on certain occasions but from the openings in the facade it is possible to view the interior, where you can see a large fresco depicting St. George on horseback killing the dragon to free the princess (northern wall). On the same wall there is a lithic fragment carved with the Agnus dei. Other frescoes dated between 1200 and 1300 testify to the importance of the small church: they are characterized by the use of metal sheets for the haloes, the finishing of the clothes, the breastplate of St. George. This technique is identical to that of the frescoes of the Pieve di S. Maria (loc. Pieve Vecchia), made in the same period.
