Nel secolo XVII ( tra il 1632 e il 1672prene forma l'attuale chiesa ed è fiorente l'attività dei padri francescani con la presenza di circa 20 confratelli. All'interno ci sono opere di notevole pregio (un'affresco del Cerano raffigurante la caduta di Saul dal cavallo della fine del 1500) e tele di vari artisti del 1600. Inoltre contigua alla chiesa è rimasto una parte del vecchio chiostro anch'esso recuperato durante i lavori di restauro effettuati nel primo decennio di questo secolo. La chiesa ospita la tomba del patrizio milanese Giovanni Battista Leonardi fondatore delle Sorelle Ministre della Carità di San Vincenzo de' Paoli.
