A JEWEL Also known as the church of the Scalze, it was built in 1631 by order of the patrician from Lecce Belisario Paladini. The church is a little gem. Someone criticizes the gilding of the columns (made in the 1950s) but in our opinion this makes the environment warmer and even more mystical. Adjacent is the former monastery of the Discalced Carmelites, which was purchased in 1903 by the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Hearts to make it the definitive seat of the general house and the Institute for the deaf and dumb founded by St. Philip Smaldone.

For the three days of their stay in Lecce, they could not inspect the temple. It was closed on Friday and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Maybe it’s a pearl of Lecce and a jewel, but some are very closed for inspection. And the quarter in which the temple is located does not look safe. Even in the afternoon it’s not very pleasant to go there, but as it gets dark, I would not advise appearing there at all, I was scared
