It is not comparable to any other sacred place I have visited, I find warmth and peace, faith is regenerated thanks also to the immense culture and knowledge of the Carmelite friars who are always available. WONDERFUL.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa del Carmine e Convento dei Carmelitani a Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, e per la precisione nella frazione di Serro del Carmine, si ricollega al culto per la Madonna del Carmelo. La chiesa è stata consacrata nel 1584 ed è in stile manierista, costruita sulla preesistente chiesa di Sant’Andrea.
Ha una pianta a tre navate ed è particolare l’unico campanile superstite dopo il grande terremoto di Messina del 1908, con la sua insolita cupola a bulbo, molto più tipica dell’architettura dell’Europa dell’Est piuttosto che della Sicilia. Dentro c’è anche la grotta artificiale che ospita al suo interno la Madonna di Lourdes.
The Carmelite church and convent of the Carmelites in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, to be precise in the hamlet of Carmine Serro, is linked to the cult of Our Lady of Carmel. The church was consecrated in 1584 and is in a mannerist style, built on the existing church of Sant’Andrea.
It has three naves and is particular only surviving bell after the largest earthquake in Messina in 1908, with its unusual onion dome, much more typical of Eastern Europe rather than in Sicily. Inside there is also the artificial cave that houses the Madonna of Lourdes inside.
