o	olga lanza on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa del Calvario fu costruita in cima al colle Caruso (oggi monte Calvario) nel 1617 come cappella votiva. Per la topografia del luogo ricorda il monte Golgota. Danneggiata durante il terremoto dell' 11 Gennaio 1693 (vi morirono un centinaio di fedeli radunati in preghiera), circa a metà del '700 su progetto di A. Scire', fu riparata e arricchita di stucchi, altari, arredi sacri. Nuove tele furono commissionate al pittore catanese Giovanni Meli nel 1740. Il portico barocco fu costruito nel 1762 su progetto dell'architetto Fancesco Battaglia. È un piccolo gioiello d'arte. Ogni anno durante le celebrazioni pasquali, a conclusione della processione vivente, il venerdì vi si svolge il suggestivo rito della crocifissione e passione di Gesù Cristo.
