★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il termine “evangelici” non è il risultato di una scelta voluta: ci è stato dato da altri. Ma ci sta bene per il suo significato originale: evangelico deriva dal termine “evangelo” che significa “buona notizia” – la buona notizia di Gesù Cristo. Forse qualcuno pensa che siamo dei protestanti, ma chi conosce il significato dato a questo nome quando fu usato la prima volta? La sua origine proviene dalla dichiarazione che 14 città e 5 stati regionali fecero a Spira il 19 aprile 1529 dinanzi al parlamento imperiale tedesco: “Noi dichiariamo solennemente dinanzi a Dio nostro unico Creatore, Redentore, Salvatore, il quale un giorno ci chiamerà in giudizio, e davanti a tutti gli uomini, che non siamo in alcun modo disposti ad accettare un’impostazione contraria a Dio, alla Sua Parola, alla nostra coscienza e alla salvezza delle anime nostre”. Chi non sottoscriverebbe una tale dichiarazione? Ora, poiché “dichiarare solennemente” si diceva “protestari”, l’epiteto di protestanti servì a definire quelli della protesta, quelli che ponevano a fondamento della loro salvezza la Parola di Dio.
The term "evangelicals" is not the result of a deliberate choice: it was given to us by others. But it suits us for its original meaning: evangelical comes from the term "gospel" which means "good news" - the good news of Jesus Christ. Maybe someone thinks we are Protestants, but who knows the meaning given to this name when it was first used? Its origin comes from the declaration that 14 cities and 5 regional states made in Speyer on April 19, 1529 before the German imperial parliament: "We solemnly declare before God our only Creator, Redeemer, Savior, who will one day summon us to judgment, and in front of all men, who are in no way willing to accept an approach contrary to God, His Word, our conscience and the salvation of our souls ”. Who would not sign such a declaration? Now, since "to declare solemnly" they said "Protestants", the epithet of Protestants served to define those of protest, those who placed the Word of God as the foundation of their salvation.
