Gli stretti vicoli non sempre brillano per ordine e pulizia. Sarebbe auspicabile se gli abitanti adornassero con piante e fiori l'esterno delle loro case, come in altri paesi del circondario. The historic center of Conversano with its houses and ancient stone buildings, made shiny by time, is beautiful. A real gem, little valued. The narrow alleys don't always shine for order and cleanliness. It would be desirable if the inhabitants adorned the outside of their houses with plants and flowers, as in other villages in the district.

Dominato dalla mole del castello, da campanile del monastero di San Benedetto dove governava il Mostrum Apuliae. Arrivando da nord il campanile di San Cosma, capolavoro assoluto del rococò napoletano in Puglia. La cattedrale bruciata e ricostruita dopo la prima guerra mondiale è un piccolo gioiello del romanico pugliese. E tutto intorno cinto dalle mura megalitiche del IV sec a.C un centro storico medievale dove eleganti palazzi segnano il settecento e l'ottocento tra androni e portali. Surely one of the most beautiful historical centers in the Land of Bari. Dominated by the bulk of the castle, by the bell tower of the monastery of San Benedetto where the Monsum Apuliae ruled. Coming from the north, the bell tower of San Cosma, an absolute masterpiece of the Neapolitan Rococo in Puglia. The cathedral burned and rebuilt after the First World War is a small jewel of the Apulian Romanesque. And all around surrounded by megalithic walls of the fourth century BC a medieval historic center where elegant buildings mark the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries between hallways and portals.

Numerose sono le leggende attribuite al Guercio delle Puglie, l'efferato conte Giangirolamo Acquaviva d'Aragona e alla sua stirpe, che tra splendori e misfatti caratterizzò la storia di questo borgo fra il '500 e il '600. Degne di nota sono il castello, poderoso maniero medievale rimaneggiato in più epoche e sede delle prestigiose tele del Finoglio, che con la maestosa Cattedrale romanica dominano la collina che guarda il mare; le chiese di S. Benedetto, con la sua cupola maiolicata e la storia unica della Badessa Mitrata, dei Santi Cosma e Damiano e S.Rita, notevole esempio di Barocco e santuario minore di Cascia, ma soprattutto la chiesa extraurbana di S. Caterina, unica in Europa con la sua pianta a quadrifoglio. Per chi ama la natura, si possono visitare i caratteristici "laghi", oasi preferita del rospo smeraldino, o allungarsi fino alle rovine di Castiglione per visitare i resti delle mura megalitiche e l'intero abitato di una città relativamente importante tra l'età del bronzo e la dominazione romana. N	Nino Colaianni on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cittadina del barese situata a 219 slm sulla Murgia; dell'antica Norba, che passa dalla Magna Grecia ai Romani, ai Normanni, agli Altavilla per poi, con i conti Acquaviva d'Aragona, diventare il "monstrum apuliae" consiglio la visita in quanto è veramente molto bella. Il centro storico molto pittoresco, varia tra il Castello con l'antica e primo nucleo difensivo e di avvistamento "Torre maestra", la "Torre cilindrica", la "Torre poligonale", queste ultime due non visitabili purtroppo, tranne che in momenti particolari (vedasi "giornate del FAI" ad esempio!), la Cattedrale, il Museo e la Pinacoteca, con il ciclo pittorico della "Gerusalemme liberata", il convento di San Benedetto, con il suo bellissimo campanile che, insieme alla Torre Maestra, svetta sullo sky line della cittadina, a dimostrazione del potente potere delle "Badesse mitrate" di Conversano, il suo chiostro medioevale...tutto da vedere! I vicoli poi offrono una bella vista, bianchi di giorno, con le luci serali color ambra! Per chi può fermarsi, la vita serale è tranquilla ma con tanti locali che offrono varie forme d'intrattenimento: dai pub a ristoranti con vari costi! Se avete la possibilità di fare un tour guidato del centro storico e dei dintorni meglio, si possono apprezzare tante opportunità che, come nel caso dei "pozzi di terra rossa", se non vi è che ti spiga quello che si sta vedendo, si passerebbe davanti senza dare importanza a e, magari, senza neppure accorgersene.
