Fu edificato per volere di uno dei più importanti industriali italiani del novecento, Riccardo Gualino. Gli fu confiscati nel 1931 dal governo fascista dell'epoca, passo' dopo il secondo conflitto mondiale alla Banca d'Italia, ad un istituto religioso e venne poi acquistato da privati. Divenne famoso nel 1980 per una clamorosa irruzione della Guardia di Finanza che aveva scoperto che il castello veniva tristemente usato come fabbrica di eroina dalla malavita. Poco dopo, nel suo interno, venne scoperta una misteriosa bara di zinco che conteneva il corpo di un bambino. Da allora è rimasto in stato di abbandono e chiuso al pubblico. It is actually a neo-Gothic castle built in 1912 on the site of an older fort, which was destroyed in the 16th century. It was built at the behest of one of the most important Italian industrialists of the twentieth century, Riccardo Gualino. It was confiscated in 1931 by the fascist government of the time, it passed after the Second World War to the Bank of Italy, to a religious institution and was then bought by private individuals. He became famous in 1980 for a sensational raid by the Guardia di Finanza who had discovered that the castle was sadly used as a heroin factory by the underworld. Shortly thereafter, inside, a mysterious zinc coffin was discovered which contained the body of a child. Since then it has remained in a state of neglect and closed to the public.

Sorta sulle rovine della Villa Ricci del XVI secolo e voluta dal mecenate biellese Riccardo Gualino che chiamò noti architetti per costruire questo castello nel primo decennio del XX secolo, tra cui, l’architetto francese Eugenio Viollet Le Duc, e l’ingegnere casalese Vittorio Tornielli. Al suo interno sono state collezionate opere di primaria importanza, da Botticelli a Van Dyck per citarne alcuni. Conta 153 stanze, 6000 metri quadrati lordi di abitazione e 170.000 metri quadrati di parco. arredato con gusto e arredi importanti. Il castello ha subito parecchie traversie tra cui quella, dell’inizio degli anni Ottanta, legata alla droga quando una delle torri ospitò una tra le più imponenti raffinerie e laboratori di stupefacenti d’Europa, fino all'intervento delle forze dell'ordine che portarono all'arresto di importanti figure a livello internazionale. La sorte del castello a causa di continui passaggi di proprietà e fallimenti, ne hanno compromesso qualsiasi utilizzo e lasciato al completo abbandono. Andato all'asta molte volte, non si sono mai concretizzati possibile di un recupero della struttura. Sicuramente da visitare anche solo dall'estero in quanto non visitabile internamente. È ancora ben conservato esternamente in quanto abitato fino a pochi decenni or sono. PARERE PERSONALE: Un vero peccato vedere un’opera del genere cadere completamente in rovina.
