N	Nicolò NR on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Palazzo Montanelli della Volta Il palazzo deve il suo nome alla “volta”, come nel Medioevo veniva chiamato questo luogo, sia per l’ampia curva che la strada compie in questo punto che per la presenza di un edificio adibito a magazzino, detto appunto “volta murata”. Tra il XIII e il XIV secolo si trovavano qui, nel centro del castello, le abitazioni delle famiglie più ricche e potenti, in gran parte imparentate tra loro o legate da interessi comuni. È probabile che il palazzo sia sorto nel Cinquecento per unione delle antiche abitazioni preesistenti. Sulla facciata in laterizio sono infatti ancora evidenti indizi dell’accorpamento di due diversi edifici: uno, a sinistra, più grande, del quale si intravedono tracce di finestre ad arco acuto che sovrastano quelle attuali e un secondo, a destra, più stretto, dove le antiche finestre sono segnalate da archi a tutto sesto. Il Palazzo, di proprietà del Comune, si trova in via G. di San Giorgio n.2 ed è oggi sede della Contrada Sant’Andrea e della Fondazione Montanelli Bassi, che ne hanno promosso e realizzato il restauro. Montanelli della Volta Palace The building owes its name to the "vault", as this place was called in the Middle Ages, both for the wide curve that the road makes at this point and for the presence of a building used as a warehouse, called the "walled vault". Between the 13th and 14th centuries, the homes of the richest and most powerful families were located here, in the center of the castle, largely related to each other or linked by common interests. It is likely that the palace was built in the sixteenth century by joining the ancient pre-existing houses. In fact, on the brick facade there are still clear signs of the merging of two different buildings: one, on the left, larger, of which you can see traces of pointed arched windows overlooking the current ones and a second, on the right, narrower, where the ancient windows are marked by round arches. The Palazzo, owned by the Municipality, is located in via G. di San Giorgio n.2 and is now home to the Contrada Sant’Andrea and the Montanelli Bassi Foundation, which have promoted and carried out its restoration.
