★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked our tickets for this ferry a few month in advance online. Since we needed the license plate number of our car, that was a bit of a problem, since we didn't know the plate number at the time, because we would have a rental car.
But the office was very helpful and helped me out (via E-Mail). They did a reservation for me and sent me everything by mail (PDF). Good and fast communication and friendly staff.
On the day we took the ferry we just traded our print-out papers for a ticket at the ticket booth (for cars). Quick and easy.
Boarding was very fast, Ferries cross about every 15-20mins in peak times. The ferries come in different sizes. From the simple one-level open ferry to multi-level ferries.
There is a kiosk on board, in case you're hungry. They got pretty decent arancini for fair prices. The ride is very quick. In 20min you arrive on the other side. Debarking was another quick and easy matter.
So we were very happy with Caronte. Everything went smooth, prices for a car (two ways) are fair for about 76 Euros. I'd use this service definitely again. We were happy with the service both ways to and from Sicily.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very inefficient Telepass lane. This is supposed to be the fast lane service but is actually slower than the regular lane. In fact, the automatic toll gate opens up slow, prints the ticket in a relatively long time and ends up in a very badly designed bottle-neck lane. Few basic queue management practice would totally eliminate the long lane even during pick time with no changes in number of boats running. This would ultimately increase revenue for Caronte & Tourist.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unfortunately the seller sold us a ticket for a truck and not for a car. As I don't speak Italian I wasn't aware of this until I saw a pricelist on the ferry. The charge was twice as it should have been. After talking to employees of Caronte Reclame Team they refused to refund the difference. I feel cheated as the seller sold the ticket whilst seeing our car (not a truck). How should you know that FURG is a truck. Bad service behaviour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tickets easy to buy via webpage, then you install the app and QR code is ready to show/download. So no need to get out of the car. Decent boat, clean, excellent arancini and canollo (made onboard!)
I wish there were a bridge between Sicily and Calabria. Still the connection is very efficient and quick.
