You cannot go past the Beltrame shop without tasting the pizzetta, the bread, the focaccia etc ... not to mention the delicious pancakes.

It was in this bread shop that we discovered what became and has remained our favorite pastry: mele al cartoccio. The dessert itself consists of an apple, peeled and cored, filled with sweet custard. The apple is then surrounded with a flaky, crispy, chewy buttery crust, rolled in sugar, and baked. We have returned several times to Bassano simply to eat this pastry. Every time I fear that my imagination has elevated my memory to levels that cannot be matched by mere reality. Every time I try again the delicious pastry I remember that not even my imagination lives up to the stupendous mele. Even now, I fear this description is too superlative, that at last imagination has eclipsed what a humble baked apple is capable of delivering. Perhaps I have overstated its deliciousness. But perhaps not. I think I'll have to try it again, just to be sure...

While the baked goods inside is OK, I wouldn't say it's anything special, but it is somewhat of a tradition for getting small bites during the day. They're famous for small pizzas. Located right on the square. Dogs welcome inside.
