Bologna Tour

Highly recommend private tour with Giuseppe. I am staying in Bologna and on Sunday I Chose to take a private tour to the area near Modena to see Pavarotti’s home and tour a traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena production site. There was an option to add time for lunch of a chosen restaurant by the tour company which I decided to do and also a possibility to see a Parmesan producer. I chose not to do the Parmesan tour as I preferred to walk to San Lucas under the porticoes Sunday morning which was another great choice. Giuseppe picked me up at noon in his lovely black BMW sedan. I was 5 minutes late and also wanted to grab a cappuccino for the ride. Giuseppe was accommodating and patient not only with my tardiness but desire to have a coffee. We got into the BMW coffee in hand and were off! He took a long perfect countryside small roads to our first destination of the restaurant. It was a beautiful sunny warm winter day and I could really feel the sense and life of the land of Emilia Romango which was important to me. The train although cheaper just doesn’t give those intimate varied views or feel. Plus, Giuseppe was kind and very patient as a person and with my Italian. It was lovely to apply my newly learned Italian words and he gently helped me along with corrections with good smiles. The restaurant we went to was an excellent choice by the tour company- again something I wouldn’t have known on my own. The name is CA’del Rio. Food and ambiance were outstanding and affordable. Prosecco, prosecco please! It was awesome to walk 10 km to San Lucas then be rewarded with such a lunch! We then went to the house of Pavarotti which is a don’t miss if you or someone you love loves Pavarotti. What a home and you gain a true sense of him and his personality beyond what you already know of his terrific tenor voice. Then we went to the vinegar producers home where I learned, tasted and bought the clear distinction of traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena. After the tour Giuseppe zoomed back via highway to bologna which I appreciated. I went to bed very happy and content on my day! I will use this company again during this stay in Bologna to go see Madonna delle Corona from Verona. Can’t wait!! Thank you your company and thank you Giuseppe:-)

Ilaria was a fantastic host who greeted us at an easy to find location and gave us so much extra information and was fun to talk with! She gave us the map and told us about the suggested route to see various tourist locations and food spots all marked out on the map. Each with its own pre-recorded history lesson accessible via qr code on the handout. After this you are free to do as you wish. We followed this for a bit but also explored other places when we wanted. This tour was the perfect balance of giving us an idea of where to go and freedom to explore where we wanted. And of course the highlight being the vouchers for various food locations! With quite generous portions in some of the locations. Overall a fantastic spin on a traditional tour and perfect for those who want to be given a loose of idea of where to walk without having to follow a regiment with a group. Thank you very much Ilaria you made our first day here so easy and I hope we bump into you on another tour.

Sacha was an excellent guide. She asked us about our own interests first and tailored the tour to these. She told us the local history, both ancient and contemporary. She gave us good recommendations for restaurants and bars. We would highly recommend this tour.

I had a wonderfull morning with Emilia who dedicately showed me all the highlights and hidden treasures of Bologna. Emilia managed to allow me entrance to various interested places that were closed to the general public - palaces, townhall, university library- and gave me very worthwile tips for places to visit that I would otherwise have never visited. She has great knowledge of Bologna’s history and interesting facts and even introduced me to the wonderfull food culture of Bologna! Thanks Emilia and Bologna Tours for a wonderfull experience! We had an AMAZING tour from start to finish it was wonderful. We got picked up right at our hotel (driver waiting on us in lobby) and brought around a lovely winery, cheese factory (the actual farm too) and finally a balsamic vinegar factory. There was no pressure at all and we could stay as long as we wanted - a must when in Bologna :)

This tour has been an incredible experience. As newcomers to Italy and Bologna in particular, my group was hoping to find a flexible experience that would involve food and allow us to move at our own pace. The tour took us through both savory and sweet foods of a large variety, and portions were very generous and satisfying. Also, Luna was incredibly accommodating when places were temporarily closed and gave us other options. Overall highly recommend this tour - great value and great experience!
