A	Aldo Damiano on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Biblioteca Civica trova origine dall'incameramento da parte dei Demanio dello Stato nel 1868, è successivamente ceduta all'Amministrazione comunale, dell'antica Libreria dei monastero di San Nicolò l'Arena, fondata da Vito Maria Amico e Nicolò Maria Riccioli nella prima metà del 700 e dalle Librerie delle altre congregazioni religiose Faranda o soppresse. Nel 1925, poi, alla morte del Barone Antonio Ursino Recupero, il Comune ereditò la sua Biblioteca ricca di oltre 41000 volumi. La Biblioteca oltre che avvalersi delle più moderne e sofisticate tecnologie informatiche , continua ad essere museo vivo e aperto di vecchi libri. The Civic Library originates from the forfeiture by the State Property in 1868, is subsequently ceded to the Municipal Administration, of the ancient Library of the monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena, founded by Vito Maria Amico and Nicolò Maria Riccioli in the first half of 700 and from the Libraries of the other religious congregations Faranda or suppressed. In 1925, then, upon the death of Baron Antonio Ursino Recupero, the Municipality inherited its library full of over 41,000 volumes. In addition to making use of the most modern and sophisticated IT technologies, the Library continues to be a living and open museum of old books.

Notevole la sala Vaccarini, con alte scaffalature in legno decorate, stucchi ed affreschi sulle volte e pavimenti in ceramica decorata. Libri antichissimi e preziosi dappertutto, tra cui spicca una mervagliosa Bibbia miniata del Cavallini, opera unica al mondo e dal valore inestimabile. The Vaccarini room is remarkable, with high decorated wooden shelves, stuccoes and frescoes on the vaults and decorated ceramic floors. Ah, ovviamente la biblioteca non è visitabile liberamente, quindi o si sborsano i 5€ per avere uno studente annoiato che ti ciarla addosso tutto il tempo oppure non si può proprio ammirare in tranquillità. Opening times bad (mornings only) and high price: less than 5 € for the guided tour. Ah, obviously the library cannot be visited freely, so either you pay the € 5 to get a bored student who will talk about you all the time or you can't just admire in peace.

Luogo stupendo, peccato. For months (due to covid) it has been accessed only by booking via email with hours 9-12, that is, only for three hours! As if to say: don't come here to study. Mi piace arricchirmi di parole importanti scritte dagli altri, approfondire argomenti a me sconosciuti o conosciuti in modo superficiale. La cultura e la conoscenza vanno di pari passo e sono la miglior arma contro l’ignoranza e la superficialità. Detto ciò, stamattina ho vissuto un esperienza meravigliosa. Ho scoperto queste biblioteche grazie al programma “La penisola delle Meraviglie” di Alberto Angela e, in occasione della venuta a Catania dei nostri amici torinesi, sono corsa a prenotare. Ho visto davvero la meraviglia, mi guardavo intorno con emozione e stupore. Nella città in cui viviamo, spesso, sono presenti luoghi a noi sconosciuti, ma capaci di sorprenderci. Bisogna esplorare e guardare tutto ciò che ci circonda con la mente e il cuore aperti. Grazie, soprattutto alla direttrice delle biblioteche Rita Angela Carbonaro per la sua professionalità e disponibilità. È riuscita a trasmettermi e a trasmetterci tutta la sua passione e l’amore che mette nel suo lavoro. Mai noiosa, mai scontata, mai banale. Una donna con la D maiuscola e lo ha dimostrato anche tramite i suoi racconti. Non vedo l’ora di tornare. In my world. I discovered these libraries thanks to Alberto Angela's “The Peninsula of Wonders” program and, on the occasion of our Turin friends coming to Catania, I ran to book. I really saw the wonder, I looked around with emotion and amazement. In the city we live in, there are often places unknown to us, but capable of surprising us. We need to explore and look at everything around us with an open mind and heart. Thanks, especially to the director of libraries Rita Angela Carbonaro for her professionalism and availability. She managed to pass on to me and pass on all her passion and love that she puts into her work. Never boring, never predictable, never banal.
