Lo scavo e la costruzione della stazione hanno comportato il totale rifacimento dell'antica piazza, nella quale si è salvato il solo edificio storico della Guardia Daziaria, ancora in ristrutturazione, e l'abbattimento di numerosi alberi che comunque verranno rimpiazzati. La stazione è concepita con criteri di avanguardia e totale automazione, un’unica linea di controllo, una lunghezza di 60 metri e una larghezza di e un tunnel vetrato la attraversa da un capo all’altro separando i binari dalla banchina per garantire la sicurezza dei passeggeri. Dispone di tre accessi, due sulla piazza e uno su via Nizza ed è integrata da un grande parcheggio sotterraneo e un'area di interscambio con le linee intercomunali. Speriamo che la nuova Giunta abbia più buon senso rimedi in un modo o nell'altro.
