Peccato la motivazione per cui mi sono dovuta recare nella chiesa che è stato il secondo funerale che assisto in quella chiesa .. spero di tornarci per un avvenimento diverso . S	Stefano Masnaghetti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Basilica di Santa Maria Nuova fu eretta a partire dal 1365, dapprima in forme puramente gotiche (si notano ancora gli archi rampanti ai lati del corpo rettangolare a croce latina della chiesa, e i pinnacoli che sovrastano la facciata), per volere della Confraternita di Santa Maria della Misericordia. Il suo nome deriva dal luogo in cui venne costruita, l'allora Piazza Nuova, poco all'interno delle antiche mura cittadine. Nel corso dei secoli fu rimaneggiata più volte, sino a giungere alle bellissime forme attuali, frutto di un polistilismo più che armonioso. Il quadriportico decorato da busti in terracotta venne realizzato nella seconda metà del Quattrocento, mentre il colossale pronao della facciata fu iniziato nel 1497, probabilmente su progetto del Bramante, e terminato soltanto alla fine del Cinquecento: secondo alcuni storici dell'arte si presenterebbe ancora incompiuto, e si tratterebbe dell'ultima opera realizzata in terra lombarda dal grande artista. Venne concepito con la funzione di proteggere dalle intemperie l'affresco della Madonna posto al centro della facciata, ai tempi ritenuto miracoloso dai cittadini di Abbiategrasso. Infine, nel 1740, l'interno a tre navate fu ristrutturato in forme tardobarocche dall'architetto Francesco Croce. Nel suo insieme, la basilica si presenta come uno dei monumenti gotico/rinascimentali più interessanti della zona. Visita caldamente consigliata. V	V K on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Lippi’s are amazing. The time before I was taken by the Ghirlandaio frescoes. If you are off the train, do not go to this area alone! It is not safe - very aggressive panhandling all around the entrances and exits. There are several dozen of them. I was afraid I was going to be jumped by them going in and coming out of the church. They were shouting and blocking my path. They also followed me. I didn’t do anything to bring their ire out. They were not there on the previous visit to the city. The city is obviously looking the other way. Given how much money the city is making off tourism, it’s a shame. The enjoyment of the art is ruined. I don’t mind paying to see their church. I do mind their lack of concern for our safety. At this point, I’m not interested in going back to Florence. The whole experience was a letdown.
