La facciata è in stile barocco, il portale d'ingresso ha porte in bronzo con bassorilievi di Arcangeli, della Trinità ed altri personaggi, mentre nella parte superiore vi è un affresco di San Michele che scaccia satana. Ha origine antica , nel IX secolo , e fu costruita su un precedente tempio di origine Romana. L'aspetto attuale risale a periodi più recenti, come la ricostruzione post terremoto del 1688 e la ripavimentazione del XVIII secolo; la facciata è in stile barocco, con il portone d'ingresso con dei bassorilievi in bronzo molto belli. La chiesa è a tre navate a croce latina, con il soffitto a cassettoni decorati con affreschi raffiguranti scene di vita di San Michele. Alcune delle Cappelle laterali sono dedicate ad alcune famiglie importanti locali come Cota, Cafiero, Maresca e Lauro.
