È la più grande e monumentale chiesa del comune,costruita in stile neoclassico e rivestita interamente in pietra bianca di Comiso.La costruzione della chiesa madre ebbe inizio alla fine del 1700 e venne completata quasi 100 anni dopo. Fu costruita la dove già esisteva sin dalla seconda metà del XVII secolo una piccola chiesa dedicata a S.Isidoro e S.Agata, distrutta in parte da un terremoto e poi ampliata ed inglobata nell'attuale struttura molto più grande resa necessaria vista la crescita demografica del comune. The mother church of Giarre is the Church of S. Isidoro. It is located in the historic center of Giarre along the Via Callipoli on the Piazza del Duomo. It is the largest and most monumental church of the municipality, built in neoclassical style and entirely covered in white Comiso stone. The construction of the mother church began at the end of the 1700s and was completed almost 100 years later. It was built where a small church dedicated to St. Isidoro and St. Agatha existed since the second half of the seventeenth century, partly destroyed by an earthquake and then enlarged and incorporated into the current structure much larger due to the demographic growth of the municipality.

Bella la Piazza che circonda il Duomo. Beautiful Duomo located in the center. Inside there are also some beautiful paintings. Place of prayer and meditation. La posizione, attigua alla strada statale, oltre che immersa nel centro storico ne fanno un fulcro per la città. Sicuramente è uno dei luoghi più suggestivi e visitati dai turisti. Se in futuro avrò nuovamente la possibilità di passare da queste parti sarei felice di poter vedere anche l'interno... Unfortunately it was closed when I passed. However, I was able to admire the majestic and imposing exterior with an important charm. The location, adjacent to the state road, as well as immersed in the historic center make it a hub for the city. It is certainly one of the most evocative places visited by tourists. If in the future I have the opportunity to pass through these parts again, I would be happy to be able to see the interior too ...

Our train was late for 80 minutes, so we thought , why to wait in a boring railway station, let's discover something new. So, we did and I don't mind at all. The distance from the railway station was about 10 minutes walk, just direct street from it. We got to this church on Sunday and there was a praying service too, so we could not admire the whole church, but could listen to the wonderful songs, and enjoy the real Sicilian life . I recommend this church.
