This place came recommended so we went their full of good expectations. Mazzara is famous for its red prawns and we were hoping to sample some at least as good as our favorite restaurant in Mondello. Mazzara is one of Italy’s most important fishing ports so fish should be good! We had a salad to start with and this was quite average. We ignored this thinking the fish and prawns would make up for it. Very disappointing. Worst prawns we had whilst in Sicily. The mazzara prawns are very red in color and typically frozen. I found this out later after some research , so there the owners son was correct in his explanation. He also said they have their own fishing vessel and direct supply which seems is not correct according to the fish market where I interviewed several fishermen. The fish was also terrible. It was rubbery and I suspect not fresh from that day... areal let down and the follow up attitude from the owners son very poor. The restaurant is now run by the sons of the founders and it seems to me to be a very commercial enterprise. I suspect the prawns where maybe the imported Argentinian version which are cheaper and had been frozen more than once as this does apparently happen. In any case, I notice plenty of full stars in google and noticed that a lot of places seemed to have some type of “support group giving questionably positive reviews”...shame. No need to visit this place. Overpriced tourist trap. The bill was around 100 usd with no apologies for poor fare. The wine was good and fairly priced.

Elegant and expensive deserve a try for the gambero Rosso of Mazara. Other delicates and gourmets when available worthy to try. The price and cost is higher in line with the restaurant ranking
