=================================
Messina Marine a Palermo.
a vari usi .
All'inizio dell'attività, l'unico prodotto di interesse era
naturali (procedimento detto "a spugna" ) collocate in
recipienti appositi (detti concoline) .
veniva trasformato in acido citrico.
Salvatore Corleone, fu antesignano come i FLORIO ,
" Stanza all'allattamento " : essa era destinata alle
- 'Refettorio' - 'Dormitorio' - 'Ritirata Donne' -
- 'Ritirata Uomini' - .
I dipendenti dell'azienda quindi venivano coinvolti
con il loro operato, impegno e abnegazione,
nel buon andamento dell'attività .
Per Salvatore Corleone allora e per i suoi eredi ora, i
princìpi e valori fondamentali dichiarati, della loro
impresa-famiglia sono :
.

TRIBUTE and HISTORICAL NOTES on the "Agrumaria Corleone"
The citrus processing industry has had
origin in Sicily and Calabria at the beginning of the 20th century.
Salvatore Corleone starts his own business in Monreale
at the end of the nineteenth century as a citrus fruit trader.
It is a special moment, in which, by the market
international but above all the French one,
the essence obtained from lemons (useful for production
of perfumes) is in great demand and well paid.
The 'Corleone', pioneer of citrus fruit in Sicily,
grab the opportunity and organize in a trappeto,
in his native territory, the new processing.
In 1915 he obtained a land concession in Via
Messina Marine in Palermo.
Here, the same year, Salvatore Corleone builds in
definitive way the new structure in reinforced concrete.
The original building (with the character of a small building
master), which looks onto Via Messina Marine, was
consisting of the ground floor (industrial plant) e
from the first floor (the Corleone residence).
The factory was also divided into several rooms, used
for various uses.
The company, born for processing and transformation
of the citrus fruits of the 'Conca d'Oro', was based in Via
Messina Marine, at numbers 14 ÷ 18 (today number 60 ÷ 64),
in an area near the sea.
In the following years, it becomes one of the most factories
active and important in the sector.
At the start of the business, the only product of interest was
lemon essential oil, extracted with processing
first manual and then more mechanized.
The essence was extracted from the rind by
manual pressure and absorbed by sponges
natural (called "sponge" procedure) placed in
special containers (called concoline).
There were no known commercial uses for the juice,
which was not even extracted; later
this began to be used for the production of
calcium citrate which, sold to Chimica Arenella,
it was transformed into citric acid.
Salvatore Corleone, was a forerunner like the FLORIO,
some measures to protect its workers (of which
had the highest esteem, care and respect); in fact, in one
interesting floor plan from 1934 (1920?), by the way
of one of the premises of its establishment, we read:
"Breastfeeding room": it was intended for
women with newborn children, who stopped work
to breastfeed.
Also always in the same floor plan, they come
indicated the following and interesting places:
- 'Refectory' - 'Dormitory' - 'Women's Retreat' -
- 'Men retreat' -.
Company employees were then involved
with their work, commitment and self-denial,
in the good performance of the business.
For Salvatore Corleone then and for his heirs now, i
principles and declared fundamental values of theirs
family business are:
.
During the last world war, the plant
of the 'Corleone' was seized and occupied before
by the German troops of the Wehrmarcht and then by
American allies who made it a headquarters.
In the immediate postwar period, the production, for a
period, extended to the processing of various products
food: - the tonnina, the tomato sauce, the extract.
The original structure, in its present state of decay
due to the state of neglect it is in, it was closed
to production about forty years ago.
The complex is now managed by the Port Authority,
as owned by the maritime state property.
Machinery, containers, filters etc. used in the old
factory, are currently kept in the new
Brancaccio (PA) plant.
Today's "Agrumaria Corleone Spa" is a company that
produces and exports concentrated citrus juices e
essential oils around the world, protecting
