Great location, tasting and explanation. We loved the taste of real balsamico and especially the gelato with nero. We bought some bottles and noticed an error on the bill, could have been just a simple mistake, but make sure to double check. They rectified it when we asked.

Perfect visit with amazing tasting with a very friendly owner. They showed around for free and were given tasting of some 25 years old balsamic vinegar. They explained to us the process and in the end you can purchase a little bottle but we were not even pushed for it. Overall I would totally recommend to stop by

This is an amazing place with a long history behind the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar. It was a wonderful experience, tasting the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar that started fermentation even before you born. Davide very humble and courteous humankind I've met in Italy. You will definitely love his hospitality. This is the must-visit place in Modena. For me, it's a lifetime experience. Thank you, Davide!

First let me comment on how responsive and easy it is to communicate with the Acetaia Villa San Donnino. Francesca our guide was fantastic, as we were concerned with Covid restrictions we had delayed scheduling our trip to Modena to the last moment. Literally with just one days notice she was able to schedule a visit for us, I was very grateful for her understanding. We arrived via a wonderful tree lined driveway leading to the Acetaia surrounded by their beautiful gardens. Once inside the warm and pungent scent of vinegar permeates the air. Francesca explained everything very thoroughly with excellent English. We have a new found respect of what is required to make this delicious product. The requirements of the DOP are strict and the vinegar has to spend a minimum of 12 yrs in the cask to be called Balsamic vinegar of Modena. We saw many casks including one owned by Pierce Brosnan and the oldest cask there is from 1512! I learned so much and wanted to share all I had learned but then realised that would just ruin the fun of discovering it yourself. Our last stop was Francesca offering us tastings of all their products (all done to a very specific cleanliness). They also produce vinegar condiments that are equally impressive and delicious, the finale was the gelato topped with balsamic vinegar, divine! If you are a foodie like us, I would strongly recommend a visit to Acetaia Villa San Donnino.

We had a free tour of this acetaia. The amazing host really spends his time to explain the intricate details of making traditional balsamic vinegar. At the end of the tour there's a tasting round and afterwards you can buy products available for different budgets. They're not pushy, even explicitly said that we don't have to buy anything. It's beautiful to see how passionate they are about their work and product. Would definitely recommend! Just call ahead and ask for a tour.

Awesome experience! Our hotel recommended this place, and we got a last minute private tour. Our tour guide (Nico) was so accommodating and welcoming. She even brought out some gelato (on a super hot day) so we could sample it with the buttery and rich balsamic! We learned so much about the process of making balsamic vinegar and got to enjoy various tastings too. We even got to see a balsamic barrel that’s been in use since 1512! ? Definitely a must visit when you plan a trip to Modena!

What an intimate, wonderful visit. We were honored to be given a tour by the owner Davide himself and learn about the art of traditional balsamic vinegar making. The tour ended with a delicious tasting, including balsamic on ice cream! I emailed to reserve a tour a few weeks in advance. It’s an easy, €20 taxi ride from Modena.
