Il nucleo originario dell'insediamento religioso è la cappella preromanica dedicata ai Santi Pietro e Aquilino, decorata con affreschi del Comaschino (1735), che ancora si trova alla base del campanile. Il monastero venne aperto dai Cistercensi di Morimondo nel 1143 e dieci anni dopo fu consacrata la chiesa, che nei secoli ha assunto l'aspetto attuale, a navata unica con abside poligonale e due cappelle a stucchi e affreschi. Notevoli, le pitture del Fiammenghino (1621), nella cappella di destra, e la tela dell'Annunciazione, nell'abside. Dall'abbazia parte la mulattiera che sale verso la testata della Val Perlana, congiungendosi con quella del versante opposto, che in breve scende alla chiesa di San Benedetto. From the center of Lenno a road climbs to the upper hamlets and reaches the abbey of Acquafredda, which takes its name from the source that still flows out of its churchyard. The original nucleus of the religious settlement is the pre-Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saints Peter and Aquiline, decorated with frescoes by Comaschino (1735), which is still located at the base of the bell tower. The monastery was opened by the Cistercians of Morimondo in 1143 and ten years later the church was consecrated, which over the centuries has assumed its present appearance, with a single nave with polygonal apse and two stucco chapels and frescoes. Noteworthy are the paintings by Fiammenghino (1621), in the chapel on the right, and the canvas of the Annunciation, in the apse. The mule track starts from the abbey and climbs towards the head of the Val Perlana, joining that of the opposite side, which soon descends to the church of San Benedetto. L	Luca Gualdi on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sono tornato l'altro giorno in quello che era il convitto del monastero presso cui i miei nonni negli anni Settanta trascorrevano il proprio periodo di vacanza, erano altri tempi ed era praticamente un lusso poter beneficiare di questo soggiorno di circa un mese lontano dalla propria casa in media valle bergamasca. La posizione rimane fantastica ma è un peccato aver trovato questo luogo, probabilmente assai ricco di storia, in stato di quasi totale abbandono. Alcuni locali accorsi per rifornirsi della freschissima acqua che sgorga in loco mi hanno detto che gli ultimi monaci, dopo alcuni furti subiti, se ne sono andati circa tre anni fa. Non li si possono biasimare ma rimane un vero peccato non si sia cercato/trovato modo alternativo per ridargli vita arrestando una decadenza che pare inarrestabile. I went back the other day to what was the boarding school of the monastery where my grandparents spent their vacation in the seventies, they were other times and it was practically a luxury to be able to benefit from this stay of about a month away from their home in the middle of the Bergamo valley. The location remains fantastic but it is a shame to have found this place, probably very rich in history, in a state of almost total abandonment. Some locals who rushed to stock up on the fresh water that flows on the spot told me that the last monks, after some thefts they suffered, left about three years ago. They cannot be blamed but it remains a real pity that an alternative way has not been sought / found to give it back life by stopping a decline that seems unstoppable.
