construction of the Garibaldi Theater, was commissioned by the mayor Gaetano Grimaldi Arezzo, marquis of Terresena, the task was given to the Enna architect Giovanni Sberna. After 8 years it was inaugurated by the mayor Sebastiano Ajala. When construction was completed, the Theater was incorporated and "perfectly harmonized" with the existing eighteenth-century Palazzo Senatorio, later called the Municipal House or Town Hall, which originally belonged to the Trigona family, barons of Floresta, purchased in 1814 by the Senators of Castrogiovanni. In 1929 the demolition of the wooden structures and the reconstruction of the theater in reinforced concrete and bricks were decided for a capacity of 360 seats distributed between the stalls and stages, which from three orders became four, including the gallery. In the autumn of 1932 it was reopened in the splendor of stuccos, lights, velvets and enriched by frescoes on the ceiling, the work of the Palermo painter Leopoldo Messina. They first trod the scene of the new "Garibaldi" Angelo Musco and Rosina Anselmi who had made their debut at the Cine Teatro "San Marco" in the previous summer, inaugurated in 1924 and demolished in the 1960s. In its one hundred and thirty-eight years of history, the Theater was closed in 1883-84 for "repairs and reform", in 1971-72 for the flood, which damaged the roof with the risk of collapse of the frescoed ceiling, and in 2001 for mass work in safety of the systems and adjustments to the current regulations for premises used for public entertainment. The latter, the longest closure, lasted for almost ten years. In order to get back the temple of art that our ancestors left us, all citizens, from the pensioner to the wealthy, in the years 2002-03, made their "contribution" (additional personal income tax or purpose tax). In the recent past, before the closure, theatrical seasons of prose of considerable artistic level, operettas and various shows have been performed at the "Garibaldi". But the Veglioni, which Enna boasts an ancient tradition, was definitively barred from (the first poster of Veglioni was published in 1881, and then, they were made until 1971, the year in which the theater was renovated following the flood.
