The specificity of these structures was that the fairway was mostly crossed by mountain valleys. To overcome these obstacles, huge bridge-like structures were erected. Thanks to these structures, called aqueducts, water was safely delivered to recipients. A miracle of technology was also the fact that it was necessary to calculate and make all the structures under a certain slope allowing the free flow of water. Until the nineteenth century, Rome was the largest European city, the palm of which was lost to nineteenth-century London. There are over 900 Christian churches in Rome and in this respect there is no city in the world with more of these buildings. Paris is famous for dogs, while Rome is the city of cats. Over 300,000 of them live in the city. According to the Roman law in force, if five or more cats live in one place, they cannot be removed. This is very legitimate. Rome as a thousand-year-old city has countless ruins, nooks and similar places. Thanks to cats, there is no problem with rodents. Vatican - one could say a state within a state. The small Vatican City State is an area separate from Italy and Rome, where the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, has his seat. The Vatican has its own administration and law enforcement. Rome is much older than modern Italy. The kingdoms and principalities that arose after the fall of the Roman Empire were not united until 1870. Thus, the history of Rome dates back almost 3,000 years, while the history of Italy as a united state is less than 150 years old. The legend of Romulus and Remus, abandoned on the banks of the Tiber by their mother and raised by a she-wolf, is the most famous legend of the founders of Rome. According to research, about 10 million tourists visit Rome each year.
